Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cooked brown rice

  • 1/2 cup oats

  • 1/4 Tbsp olive oil

  • 1/4 shallots

  • 1/2 Tbsp each cumin powder, and smoked paprika

  • 1/4 tsp each sea salt and black pepper,

  • 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar.

  • 3/4 cup cooked black beans*, well rinsed, drained and patted dry

  • 1/4 cup  bread crumbs

  • 2 Tbsp BBQ sauce

    Fillings: Lettuce, Tomato,Cucumber, Mayonnaise

    Tomato Sauce, Mustard

  1. Tear up the shallots.
  2. Measure oats. Add oats to zip lock bag with cumin, smoked paprika, salt, pepper and sugar and mix until a fine meal is achieved. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl add drained, dried black beans and mash well with a fork, leaving only a few whole beans.
  4. Add beans to zip lock bag with cooked rice, oat mixture, shallots, BBQ sauce, and mix thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, or until a mouldable dough forms. If dry, add extra 1-2 Tbsp BBQ sauce. If too wet, add more panko bread crumbs. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  5. Mould into 2 patties.   Place on baking sheet.
  6. Add a small amount of oil to a frying pan and cook patties.
  7. Build your burger with the patty and fillings of your choice.
